We are progressing through our series thisevening. We have most recently been goingthrough that section of the Old Testament knownas the Writings, which is the third division ofthe Old Testament scriptures. That section isprimarily poetic. The book of Psalms is thelongest and the primary book in that section. Thesection also includes Proverbs and Job as otherbooks that have a poetic cast to them. Then thereis this particular group of five books called bythe Jews, the Megillot or the Festival Scrolls.These five little books (Song of Solomon, Ruth,Lamentation, Ecclesiastes and Esther) weretraditionally read at various festival occasions inancient Israel.This is the section of the Writings we havebeen going through most recently. We havegone through Song of Solomon, Ruth andLamentations. Now we are up to the fourth ofthe five Festival Scrolls, the book ofEcclesiastes. There’s only a little bit remainingin this section. Once we finish Ecclesiastes andEsther, then the only portion of the Writings leftis the books of Daniel, Ezra, Nehemiah, and 1and 2 Chronicles. We have already covered Ezra,Nehemiah, and 1 and 2 Chronicles when wewent through the historical books of the OldTestament. We will take a very brief look inthose four books from a little different standpointthan we went into before. We will take a brieflook at them in one Bible study because we havealready gone through them in depth a number ofmonths ago.Once we finish up Ecclesiastes and Esther, wewill have finished the five Festival Scrolls...
